The Flash Blog ยป Flash Works On Touch-Based Devices (Video)
Comment: This video just reinforces my belief that Adobe’s evangelists have no credibility in this conversation. This video is essentially a lie. The people I have seen saying that Flash sites will need to be revamped (funny that Lee doesn’t link to any of them) have said this because on a touch device there is usually little difference between a click and a hover event - there is only a single touch event, as well as a drag event that might act like a hover sometimes.
The video conveniently only focuses on interface points where either hover or click has no effect, so there is no ambiguity. Take the hulu.com example. Most of the Hulu video interface has different behaviors for click and hover. Specifically, “click” will pause the video, while “hover” will display the controls interface. The video conveniently neglects to venture into this part of the interface, showing only clicks on the navigation bar, which has no such ambiguity.
The long and short of it: Adobe’s evangelists are making me sick.
